On 3rd of July 2009 at the “Cherveno zname” swim complex in Sofia, the Bulgarian Junior LC Championships 2009 is successfully started. About 300 athletes from 30 domestic swimming clubs participated. FBSS (First Bulgarian Swimming Site) presents a wide report written from the pen of editor-in-chief. Few pictures from the pool are also included.

The Summer Absolute Championships of FYROM (LC pool) took place at the “Mladost” pool in the capital Skopje (June 28-30). More than 310 competitors from 17 domestic swimming clubs took part in 3-day events. The First Bulgarian Swimming Site presents a short review.

 French Swim Federation Bans Polyurethane Suits...

In a press release distributed to the media on 29 of June 2009, the French Swimming Federation announced that it would follow only the original May 19 iteration of the FINA Approved Suit List. France's federation also called FINA to action in the release stating that FINA needs a new mandate when it comes to how it regulates the sport of swimming. The First Bulgarian Swimming Site presents a wide commenter about that decision of the Fédération Française de Natation written from the pen of editor-in-chief.

Two-time Olympic champion Britta Steffen (Germany) bettered twice the 100 meters Freestyle World record at the 121st German Championships that has been held in Berlin. Firstly, 25-years old athlete clocked 52.85 sec. Two days later she finished the same race with a time of 52.56 sec. The “Learn to swim” book will be freely given without any charges.

The COMEN Cup 2009 concluded successfully this past week-end in Belgrade (Serbia). Final team ranking: 1) France; 2) Italy; 3) Greece. The Bulgarian swimmers still has a huge interest due to FINA 2009 List of approved swimsuits. That’s why the First Bulgarian Swimming Site presents the List. The FINA Commission in charge of the swimwear approval, formed by representatives of the FINA Executive, FINA Technical Swimming Committee, FINA Coaches Commission, FINA Athletes Commission, and FINA Legal Councillor had a meeting on May 18, 2009 in Lausanne (SUI) and after reviewing 348 swimsuits from 21 manufacturers forwarded its proposal to the FINA Executive, who decided or approved the following swimsuits models (List of approved swimsuits is included).

 Jolly Dolphin Tournament 2009 concluded...

On the 13-14 of June 2009 in the town of Sandansky (Pirin Macedonia) the Jolly Dolphin Tournament 2009 has been held. About 330 kids (born 1998) from more then 20 domestic swimming clubs participated in that splendid event organized at the 50-meter swim pool. The complex team winner of the Tournament (both men and woman concurrencies) is the SC “Iris” Rousse coached by Mr. Atanas Todorov. Congratulations!

 The BUL movie “Swimming pool”...

The Bulgarian movie “Swimming pool” is the only one that deals with the domestic swimming sport. The director of this movie is Binka Zhelyazkova. She is a Bulgarian film director who was engaged in the film production  between the late 1950s and 1990s. She was the first Bulgarian woman to direct a feature film and one of the few women worldwide to direct feature films in 1950s. The First Bulgarian Swimming Site presents the memories on the swimmers and divers from that unforgettable movie.

Mr. Janusz Wasko from Poland wrote a unique book represented the world swimming statistician in last 50 years. The name of the book: National record evolution (30 nations) from Melbourne (1957) to Melbourne (2007) – Long Course Swimming records. Mr. Janusz Wasko, 56 years old economist is living in Zamosc – East Poland. The great swim enthusiast and swim statistician since 1974. The total corps of the book is divided into three clearly defined thematic groups. The kernel of materials is TOP 30 of the national records as at 31.12.1968, 31.12.1988; 31.12.2006. Really, the great swim book. Congratulations from Sofia!

In the present, Dobri Dinev is living in Canada. He established a swimming club called Dobri Dinev’s Friends in Montreal. Marathon swimmers are in the training process, too. The holder of the FINA Open Water World Cup Petar Stoychev is also a member of this club. The Association of the Bulgarian swimmers affiliates Mr. Dinev as a Member of Honour.

According to the FYROM’s mass-media, FINA will probably withdraw the privilege of the FYROM’s swimming federation to organize the FINA Open water swim marathon in the town of Ohrid on 18th of July 2009. The reason is that the FYROM swim federation isn’t paid an amount due ($ 30 000). FBSS presents a wide commentary about that unpleasant situation.

She is often credited for inventing the sport of synchronised swimming after her 1907 performance of the first water ballet in a glass tank at the New York Hippodrome.

According to Hellenic swimming federation, Greece cancelled the Balkan Youth Games 2009 that has to be held in Istanbul (Turkey). In the official letter published at the official site of the Hellenic swimming federation, it is argued that also Romania and Cyprus will not participate in Istanbul 6-7 of May 2009. One of the oldest AG LEN meet, and the most respectable in Austria, the Spittal 2009, concluded successfully last week-end at the Wappenschale. More then 600 athletes from ITA, SLO, HUN, BUL, CRO, CZE and AUT took part in the events. The swimmers from SC Mladost’91 Plovdiv (Bulgaria) won 27 medals (8 gold, 10 silver, 9 bronze). Yordan Kratsev (1995) and Nikola Dimitrov (1995) were proclaimed the best Bulgarian swimmers.
