China's Swim Crisis is put to History…
Z.Yadong
China’s new head coach Zhang Yadong has stated that Chinese swimming is drug-free and on the road to redemption. Speaking at the 7th Asia Swimming Championships, Zhang told the media: “To do well is more than just a task, more than just mere responsibility to the country. It is a mission, our destiny to have to do well. It’s like going to war. When an army is down, the more it should raise its spirit to win the battle".
Just what would make a difference within the next two years remains to be seen. In 2003 China has launched an ambitious campaign to turn some 7,000 swimming pools nationwide into professional clubs, as the sport's first ever joint-venture club was founded in Beijijng. Sanctioned by the China Swimming Association (CSA), the CSA-Kyoei Swimming Club is located in the Beijijng Fitness Center in the southeastern part of the Chinese capital. It is to be run jointly by the Tokyo-based Kyoei Swimming Club Machida and the Social Sports Center of the Beijing Sports Bureau.
